I know I talked about our new seating arrangement a while back… but thought I would update! It’s been a few weeks now and I have to say, I am in LOVE with our T.ripp Trapps. They are so awesome and worth every penny. I love that I can customize them to fit each kid. I mean, there’s a major size difference between Little Miss and the boys – what works for them does not work for her. We have three different colors which is fun as well. The kids seem to approve of them – they don’t fight me to go into them like they were doing with the highchairs. (We did have the chairs that strap on to your regular chairs, but with those – Little Miss was still too short and they were ruining our chairs.)
I also blogged a while back that we also picked up a table for them to have their snacks on and eat some meals. I prefer to have them at the big mesa (see me busting out my Spanish??) vs. eating at the little mesa. I like them to be strapped in. I’ve noticed I have a much higher success rate at actually having them eat if they are stuck at the table. At the little table, they tend to want to just wander around and graze – something I am not a fan of. When we eat, we sit – at a table. That’s just how it works in my house when I am on meal-duty. Steph seems to prefer doing breakfast at the little table. It works for her.
I LOVE having family meals with all 5 of us sitting down together. We’ve been trying to do this on the weekends and it’s be wonderful (Steph gets home too late during the week). I love the kids being right there and having that interaction. Plus, the whole food throwing thing has stopped. They just don’t do it since moving to the big table. They are all using forks and spoons too! Their new favorite is eating cereal with milk in a bowl… they do surprisingly well with it!
I really love that I don’t have to wipe down a high chair tray anymore. I hated those things. Esp. since there were three of them! After much research, we did end up with some more substantial placemats for The Trio. The regular ones were way too much fun for them. They would slide them around & pick them up, eventually dumping their plate onto the floor. Since we have a Mexican pine table, our options appeared to be limited. Suction cups do not stick to our table. I also wanted something that would be heavier in hopes of deterring them from lifting it up or sliding it around. We ended up with these – Piggy Pla.tter – incredibly stupid name, I agree. But overall, it’s a decent product. It’s not perfect for us, but it was the best we could find for our particular table. I think with a glass table or a finished wood table, it would be even better. (they can still move it around on our table, but not nearly as much as before with the regular placemats)

The new chairs look great! I'm glad you found something that works well for your place. Our two are also using forks, and tend to eat much more effectively when given a utensil (and even more effectively when we can all sit together). Just think, a year ago we were just beginning solid foods. Rice cereal, anyone?
those chairs are amazing!!! great idea!
awesome! now i need to get the chair and the mat. how do you find these great things?!? no, really, that's not a rhetorical question..

I would get the chairs if I had a table large enough to fit everyone. We have to buy a table to seat 8 first. and we don't want to buy a nice table right now because the kids TRASH this table. (arts and crafts, forks, hammers, trucks)I CAN however get those nifty placemats. That's awesome.I have to know. Do you get a kick back for all of this advertising
Nope KJ… no kickbacks! I don't even know how to go about doing something like that! I just research stuff, buy it for my kids and tell you guys all about it!!
This is one of the cutest pictures I have ever seen. Bon appetit! We use the Stokke Table Top Placemat & love it, but it does operate with suction cups so I guess it wouldn't work for you guys. We have the Tripp Trapp chair but ours doesn't have the bar between the seat and the footrest (which must be good for avaoiding foot kicking) — your must be a newer model.
We moved from the highchair trays to the table in July and I agree, not having to wipe down those trays is so awesome. We do afternoon snack at our little table. It's in the living room so there's no way I could do a meal at it, but I do want them to learn how to sit and eat without being strapped in. Of course the nanny has better luck with it then I do, but we're working on it.Love those chairs! They look so nice. I'm happy with our boosters, but they aren't pretty that's for sure.
I had one of those for my son and I LOVED that chair! He used it forever and it looked great no matter where I moved it! Wish I had hung onto it now!
